Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men globally and increasingly diagnosed in Sri Lanka. It develops in the prostate gland and often grows slowly, making early detection crucial for successful treatment.

Is It Treatable?

HIGHLY TREATABLE - the 5-year survival rate for localized prostate cancer is nearly 100%. Many men live long, full lives after treatment. Early detection through PSA testing is key.

⚠️ Warning Signs

  • Difficulty urinating or weak urine flow
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Pain in the hips, back, or pelvis
  • Erectile dysfunction

🔴 Risk Factors

  • Age over 50
  • Family history of prostate cancer
  • African ancestry (higher risk)
  • Obesity
  • Diet high in red meat and dairy
  • Sedentary lifestyle

🔍 Screening & Detection

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE) recommended for men over 50. Discuss with your doctor about when to start screening.
